Our first newsletter!

Writing to you from the depths of lockdown in Auckland. Hope that all of you are keeping safe, wherever you are and whether you’re still working at school or at home.

It’s so good to be up and running! Thank you to all our clients that waited for us to able to start work. Your loyalty and belief in us is so appreciated and we hope that we will meet all your expectations.

Please let us know if you have any ideas for changes in procedures, reporting – anything that you think would work better for you and for us. We don’t ever want our clients to think that you are bothering us with your concerns and queries because we’re busy.  That’s what we’re here for, and to be honest, your tricky questions add challenge and variety to our day! So please let us know if you have any problems.

Meet our team

Elise, Steph and Nellie

Nellie Shaw
ne*********@as***********.nz
Most of you will already know me, but did you know I did my first degree in German and Spanish? Can now barely speak German and I can understand Spanish if they speak really, really slowly. I teach piano at home and I learn the violin, but I have to practise locked away in a bedroom, because the people who live in my home don’t appreciate my playing! Mother of 5, Nana to 8, foster mum to 3, love my family 🙂

Straight out of school, I trained as a hairdresser. Loved the creative aspect of it and so I took the next natural step and became an accountant 🙂 Seven years of hard slog to complete my degree while working part-time and having three children along the way. Hence, in my spare time I really enjoy Netflix and napping.

Stephanie Shaw (Admin)

I’ll be doing most of the admin work, so you’ll be getting a lot of emails from me! I’ve worked in various industries doing administration work. I LOVE my animals, so I’m working part-time at the SPCA where I get a lot of kitten cuddles. I’m well on my way to fulfilling my dream of being a crazy animal lady with three dogs and two cats.

Over the next three months

If you still need help, let us know and we can schedule some training for you.

  • Term 3 is the best time for all of us to get ready for end of year (I’m sorry to bring that up so soon!). This means we will also be looking at:
    • Asset registers – registering and balancing, providing lists for review and disposal
    • Leases
    • Cyclical maintenance plans
    • End of year copies

So expect some emails from us shortly!

Budgets

Don’t forget, the budget included in your annual accounts must be the budget approved by the BOT at the beginning of the year.  You may amend the budget during the year for reporting purposes, but you must return to the original approved budget for your end of year reporting.
Hint: Include the final surplus/deficit amount in the BOT minutes when approving the budget.  There can sometimes be quite a few versions of the budget floating around, and it makes it much easier to check which budget is the final, final version.

Going Paperless

A timely reminder about saving your work online. This lockdown was so sudden that many of us had no advance warning that we wouldn’t be able to go to school the next morning.
