Back in the dark, distant past, I worked in the accounts department of a company that shall remain nameless. I used spreadsheets … a lot! But the computer I used did not have a mouse…
and despite many requests, they were too cheap to buy me one. So I became very proficient at using keyboard shortcuts to do my work. I still use some of those keyboard shortcuts in Excel today because, once you’re familiar with them, they can actually be faster than using the mouse. So thanks, unnamed cheapskate company 🙂
I thought I’d post some lists of the really useful, common Excel keyboard shortcuts. You need to use them often to make them second nature, so if you’re not already using these shortcuts, pick one or two, write them out, stick it on your monitor, and use them every time you need to do that action.
The most useful Excel keyboard shortcuts are the copy and paste items. You use these all the time! Get used to using just the fingers of your left hand to make it even faster.
Ctrl + C | Copy |
Ctrl + V | Paste |
Ctrl + X | Cut |
Ctrl + Z | Undo |
Have a go, and practice until you don’t have to think about the commands before you do them. Happy shortcutting :).
